He is survived by his wife, May Florence Gates, five daughters: Barbara Ewing (James) of Pheba, MS; Beverly Mckinney, Janet Morris both of Maben, MS; Rosie Chandler (Kent), Vivian Chandler both of Pheba, MS; two sons: George Gates, Jr. of Maben, MS; James Gates (Victoria) of Houston, MS; four brothers: Tommie Lee Gates (Doria) of Woodland, MS; Dossie Gates (Annette) of Elkhart, IN; Lenzie Caldwell (Johnnie) of St. Louis, MO; Frank Caldwell (Jean) of Sarasota, FL; two sisters: Annie Mary Swift (John) of Indianapolis, IN; Ruth Caldwell of Chicago, IL; 12 grandchildren.
