Mrs. Hazel Laverne Stewart Harrison was born to Harnes and Estelle Stewart in Mathiston, Mississippi.
Mrs. Harrison made history by becoming the first African American Deputy Justice Court Clerk in Webster County and the first African American City Clerk in Eupora, MS. Later in life, she was employed as an Administrative Assistant at MSU for the Student Counseling Center. In 2007, she and her husband, Hiawatha purchased the DME Home Health Company in Columbus, MS where she was the Vice President and office manager.
Mrs. Harrison was the pianist for Piney Jordan U.M. Church, Pleasant Hill U.M. Church, Liberty U.M. Church, St. Stephen U.M. Church; she also played for and sang in the choir at Traveler's Rest M.B. Church. When she moved to Columbus, Mississippi she began playing for East Sand Creek.
