Mrs. Archeen Rush Larry

Archeen Rush Larry was born on May 24, 1950 in Starkville, Mississippi to Odie and Nettie Rush, both preceded her in death. She was the youngest girl of 12 children. Archeen accepted Christ at an early age at Josey Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Starkville, Mississippi, where she sang in the choir and was an active member. She departed for her heavenly home on April 13, 2016. Archeen graduated from Henderson High School in 1968 and was awarded a vocal music scholarship from Rust College in Holly Springs, Mississippi. She was a member of the Rust College World Renowned A’Cappella Choir and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. In 1972, Archeen graduated from Rust College with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music Education with an emphasis in Vocal Music. After graduation, Archeen retuned to Starkville and taught English, music and was the choir director at Moore High School. In 1972, she married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Thomas Larry. They relocated to the Winchester, Tennessee area, and Archeen taught English, music and was the director of the choir at North Junior High School for over 33 years. During her tenure, she received many awards, including Outstanding Music Teacher of Middle Tennessee, Teacher of the Year of the Franklin County School System, and was nominated District Teacher of the Year by the State of Tennessee. A faithful member of Mount Sinai Baptist Church, Archeen served as the church musician. She was an active participant with the church women’s group, and Sunday school and bible study group. During her lifetime, Archeen’s service to God, her family and her community had a profound impact on everyone she met. Her willingness to help was immeasurable; and because she had such an infectious, fun spirit, she acquired additional brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and godchildren who loved her as their own. Archeen is survived by her loving husband—Thomas Allen Larry; her sisters and brothers—Durlene (Coy) Block of Mayfield, Illinois, Sarah (King) Billups of Chicago, Illinois, Wilma Vaughn of San Jose, California, Steave (Ann) Rush of Long Beach, California, Shirley (Ivory-deceased) Brown of Vallejo, California, Armastine (Alva) Gipson of Holly Springs, Mississippi, Ethert (Raymond-deceased) Taylor of Vallejo, California, Bettie Johnson of Oakland, California, Margrett Davis of Tallahassee, Florida, Olen (Brenda) Rush of Lithonia, Georgia, Benjamin (Reloyce) Rush of Starkville, Mississippi; and brother-in-law—Joe Larry, Jr. of Starkville, Mississippi. She will be missed by numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, extended family and friends.
