MINISTER BERNICE "BUNNY" MARTIN

Minister Bernice Martin, affectionately known as “Bunny” was born on October 13, 1961 to the late Joe Eckford and Mary Jane Martin. Bunny was the baby of two siblings and enjoyed her role of being the youngest. Bunny gave her life to Christ at an early age and later accepted her calling and became a minister. Bunny enjoyed ministering to other and being a faithful servant to her church and community. Bunny was a Sunday School teacher, church alter worker, and a church greeter in both her Memphis and Georgia church where she was a member. Later, after returning home to Mississippi, Bunny became a member of Peter’s Rock Church of God and Christ under the leadership of Pastor Joseph Hawkins this year. After graduating from F.O. Alexander High School in 1979 and college; Bunny began her career in education, starting as a nursery school teacher and later receiving her masters and certification in Special Education. Bunny took pride in being an educator and working with her many students throughout the years. After 40 years, Bunny retired from Georgia school system but shortly felt the need to return to teaching in Memphis. Bunny enjoyed being amongst the presents of people, whether it was talking over the phone, visiting, or shopping and having lunch. Bunny proceeds in death her parents Joe and Mary Jane Martin. Bunny leaves to cherish her memories: her only sister Cheryl Diann Martin of Starkville, MS and only brother Joe Richard (Alinda) Martin of Dekalb, MS, her nieces, Jennifer (Matt) Gordon of Lebanon,TN and her namesake Brooklin Bernice Martin of Starkville, MS, her nephews Nicholas “Nick” Martin, of Atlanta, GA and Cornelius “Quan” Harris of Columbus, MS, two great nieces Akayla Martin of Starkville, MS and Joslyn Sharp of Crawford, MS, two great nephews Shayne Chistopher Martin of Indianapolis, IN and Christopher Harris of Columbus, MS, three special niece and nephews Neela, Glen, and Gavin Redd of Starkville, MS, a host of Godchildren, cousins, and dear friends. Psalm 27:4 "One thing I ask of the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in his temple".
