MR. JOHN MOORE SR.

John Moore Sr. was born on December 14, 1940, in Morgan, MS. He was raised in a close-knit family by his parents, Rosie and Eli White, and had two sisters, Mary Blake Moore and Rosizener Cation. He was the father of five children: Ronnie Williams, Debra Moore, Albert Cannon, Cassandra Washington, Bridget Moore, and John Moore Jr. He also has twenty grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rosie and Eli White; one sister, Mary Blake Moore and two daughters: Debra Moore and Bridget Moore. He graduated from Broad Street High School in Greenwood, Mississippi, and attended Mississippi Valley State University (MVSU) on a four-year football scholarship, playing as an offensive center and defensive linebacker. He earned a BS degree in Industrial Education at MVSU and later obtained a Master of Industrial Technology from Mississippi State University. His first employment was at Eva Harris High School in Brookhaven, Mississippi, where he served as the head football coach and driver education teacher from 1965-1966. He then worked at Henderson High School and Starkville High School from 1966-2012. Over those 45.5 years, Mr. Moore was a football coach, offensive and defensive line coordinator (1966-1969), Building Construction Technology Teacher, and Adult Education Teacher (1966-2012). He also served as a Technology Counselor for the Adult Basic Education Program, a NOTIC teacher test administrator for the Trade and Technical program for the State of Mississippi, and was the owner and operator of M&M restaurant on Washington Street in Starkville, MS, in 1970. Additionally, he worked as the director of Prairie Opportunity, overseeing Summer Youth jobs for Oktibbeha, Clay, and Noxubee counties. Honors: 1. Skills USA Outstanding Advisor (2011) 5. Starkville School District Teacher of the Year (1972 and 1984) 6. Trade and Industrial Education Student Scholarship Award named after him (10/11/2009) 7. The originator of Trade and Industrial Education programs in the district 8. Plaque for 10 years of service to Christian Education 1999
