Mrs. Carol Ann Mcmorris - Gathe

Carole Ann McMorris-Gathe passed on from this life at 9:12pm on Friday, April 1, 2016 at Park Plaza Hospital in Houston, Texas. Carole was born on July 9, 1933 in Starkville, Mississippi as the only loving daughter of Bertha McMorris. She was the stepdaughter of Jasper McMorris. Carole was exceptionally bright and graduated elementary school, with honors, at 12 years old. She then attended Charles Sumner High School in St. Louis, MO, a historically Black High School, and was awarded her diploma after completing the required curriculum at the ripe old age of 15.While in high school she began to develop her keen interest for Black History and earned the nicknames of “little bit” and “pee wee” because she was 5‟ 1½” tall and wore a size 4½ shoe! She applied and was accepted as a freshman at Fontbonne College that next fall at the age of 15; an educational institution chosen by her mother because she was “too young” to make those types of decisions.
