He is survived by his son Dennis Shotwell (Emily); daughters Verna Lynn Leonard and Joni Francine Rogers; son-in-law Raphael Leonard; and grandchildren: Jarvis Evans, Lynsey R. Page (Marcus), Johnny Evans, Courtney L. Jethroe (DJ), VerLyncia Leonard, Raphael Leonard, Ebony Jimeson (Dante), and Denika Shotwell; great-grandchildren: Karter, Elijah, Ezekiel, Tahj, Ky-Mani, Ky-Mari, Tyre, and Thai; sister, Willie Lucille Scott; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
