John Moore Sr. was born on December 14, 1940, in Morgan, MS. He was raised in a close-knit family by his parents, Rosie and Eli White, and had two sisters, Mary Blake Moore and Rosizener Cation. He was the father of five children: Ronnie Williams, Debra Moore, Albert Cannon, Cassandra Washington, Bridget Moore, and John Moore Jr. He also has twenty grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rosie and Eli White; one sister, Mary Blake Moore and two daughters: Debra Moore and Bridget Moore.
He graduated from Broad Street High School in Greenwood, Mississippi, and attended Mississippi Valley State University (MVSU) on a four-year football scholarship, playing as an offensive center and defensive linebacker. He earned a BS degree in Industrial Education at MVSU and later obtained a Master of Industrial Technology from Mississippi State University.
