Mrs. Marie Horsley Brown, the daughter of the late Nora Horsley and Emily Carter Horsley was born January 13, 1930, in Oktibbeha County. She answered God’s command to return unto Him and his heavenly home on January 11, 2024. Our Father plucked a beautiful flower, one that wore many hats and answered to many names: Mother, Momma, Mom’me, Mare’Ree, Big Baby, Grandma, Auntie, Mother Brown, Matriarch, and Queen B.
At an early age, Marie accepted Christ and united with the Josey Creek M. B. Church where she remained a faithful member until her death. She worked with the Church Missionary Society; not only was she a missionary worker in the church but outside the church as well. Her home was the home to many of her nieces, nephews, their friends, and cousins, raising them JUST like she raised her children. She didn’t spare the rod; that look meant something.
