He is survived by his wife, Birtha L. Powers of Starkville, MS; his loving daughters: Lenetra Ellis and Melvinia E. "Beth" Petty Powers, both of Starkville, MS; son, Tommie L. Powers (Roshonda) of Douglasville, GA; step-son, Gerald T. Ellis of San Pablo, CA; brother, Jesse Y. Powers of Baraboo, WI; sisters: Dorothy L. Rogers, Lillie A. Johnson, Elizabeth Powers, and Wanda Powers all of Starkville, MS; Margie C. Stony (Raymond of League City, TX; five grandchildren: Private 1st Class Kerrigan Ellis of Fort Sill, OK; Tayden, Triniti, and Tristin Powers all of Douglasville, GA; and Kendahl Shields of Starkville, MS; He also leaves a "very special" adopted nephew, Emmanuel Powers II.
